KTVU News Van Robbed In Oakland Parking Lot

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Camera equipment was stolen from a KTVU news van in Oakland over the weekend.

The van was parked in a lot at 35th Avenue and East 12th Street in Oakland's Fruitvale District Sunday while a reporter covered an event, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

When the crew returned to the van, they found that locks had been smashed on the passenger side, and a portable backpack system used for live broadcasting, a laptop, tripod and other gear had all been stolen.

It was the latest in a string of burglaries targeting media in the Bay Area.

Several TV stations have hired security guards to accompany them while on assignment in Oakland in response to the robberies.
