KPIX Weather Center Fast Fact: SF May Afternoons Coldest Since 1980

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) -- If you've been trying to remember a May that's been this chilly in San Francisco, you're definitely onto something.

KPIX 5 chief meteorologist Paul Deanno checked the records Friday, and it turns out that the last time afternoons were this cool in May in San Francisco was back in 1980, 35 years ago.

You might recall that Jimmy Carter was president then, Milt May was a catcher for the Giants, and gas only cost a dollar a gallon.

On Wednesday we noted that the high temperatures in both Moscow, Russia and Anchorage, Alaska topped S.F.'s reading.

Earlier in the week, things were so cold that we were on par with Helsinki, Finland. But we should be seeing more seasonal temperatures inland this weekend. Check the forecast for your zip code on the Weather Page.
