Known Gang Member Shot Dead At Salinas Apartment Complex

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police are seeking suspect information about a shooter who killed a known gang member at an apartment complex in Salinas late Friday night.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Salinas police officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of North Main Street near Russell Road.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a 39-year-old Hispanic man deceased as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

The police investigation into the homicide revealed that the victim, a known gang member, was walking through the apartment complex parking lot when an unknown gunman accosted him, police said.

Salinas police have not released any suspect information and are investigating the homicide as possibly gang-related.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released and a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
