Student Injured In King City High School Shooting, Suspects At Large

KING CITY (AP) -- A student was wounded Tuesday in an apparent gang-related shooting outside a Northern California high school, authorities said.

The 18-year-old student was shot twice about 30 yards from King City High School and two suspects remain at large, Kings Police Chief Bob Masterson said.

Witnesses saw the gunman run across the school's campus as he got away, prompting a lock down of the high school. An accomplice fled in the opposite direction, Masterson said.

The wounded student escaped by driving home and a family member took him to a hospital.

The student has life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition and expected to survive, Masterson said.

Masterson said the suspects don't appear to be students at the school.

King City has experienced a sharp uptick in violence this year. There were six shooting in an eight-day period in February.
