Police: Oakland Kidnapping Report Was Hoax

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A kidnapping case reported Monday night proved to be false report, according to the Oakland police.

The Oakland police had issued an alert to other agencies in the area about the case, and the CHP's Golden Gate Division wrote a post on Facebook late Monday sharing the information about the reported kidnapping of a woman in her 20s by a 32-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Malibu, CHP Officer
Jonathan Fransen said.

However, Oakland police wrote on Twitter at 12:47 a.m. that there was "no merit" to the call.

The CHP removed the post about the kidnapping from their Facebook page after learning from Oakland police that the person who initially reported the kidnapping was without merit, Fransen said.
