KCBS In Depth: SFPD Chief Greg Suhr Talks About Use Of Force, Pedestrian Accidents & Smartphone Robberies

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — The San Francisco Police Department is facing harsh criticism from some in the San Francisco's Mission District community over the shooting death by officers of 28-year-old Alejandro Nieto in Bernal Hill Park last March.

KCBS' Jane McMillan and Ed Cavagnaro spoke with Police Chief Greg Suhr about Nieto's shooting which he said is a tragedy but that the officers were justified using deadly force. Nieto's  family is preparing to sue the city.

Suhr discusses the case and other challenges facing the city such as the increase of pedestrian accidents, violent robberies of smartphones and tablets as well as the controversy surrounding the department using new technology—such as cameras and tasers in this week's In-Depth Series.
