KCBS Animal Update: Foster Care For Kittens

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Is it kitten season at the animal shelter? Dr. Jennifer Scarlett with the SF SPCA says judging by the bags under her eyes that yes, it is.

As it gets warmer and the days get longer our cats get outside and if they're not spayed or neutered, they reproduce.

Scarlett said there are a lot of San Francisco residents who find orphaned and lost kittens in their yards or under bushes in parks.

The SF SPCA has a volunteer-run foster care program for kittens. "The homes will give them love and TLC from anywhere from three to four weeks until they're old enough to get spayed or neutered and ready for adoption," she said.

It's a great program for people who don't have a lot of time on their hands or who travel a lot and do have periods of times that they can devote to pets. All they have to do is sign up for a class and once they complete the course, they're eligible to become a not only a kitten's foster parent, but a puppy's or an animal with special needs.
