Kayakers Rescued Outside Golden Gate Bridge

SAUSALITO (CBS SF) -- The Coast Guard rescued two kayakers Sunday evening off the coast of Marin County, Coast Guard officials said.

Two brothers were brought back to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate at 5:45 p.m. and one was evaluated by medics, Lt. j.g. Jake Urrutia said.

The two were paddling just off Kirby Cove near Point Diablo when one of the brother's kayaks started taking on water, prompting him to try to swim to shore.

The other brother called 911 while taking the damaged kayak with him, Urrutia said.

A search of the shoreline found the brother who was swimming still in the water and rescuers pulled him out.

Both brothers had life jackets on, Urrutia said.
