Northern California Kaiser Data Show Clusters Of Under-Immunization In Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A new study shows high concentrations of unvaccinated children in Northern California.

Using medical records of children who received care in the Kaiser Permanente Northern California system and mapping that data to addresses, the study found five statistically significant clusters of under-vaccination.

In the study, published in the online journal "Pediatrics," nearly 23 percent of kids in Vallejo don't have even one recommended vaccination.

In an area stretching from Richmond to San Leandro, the number of unvaccinated children is almost 19 percent and is about 18 percent in northern San Francisco and southern Marin counties.
