Judge Orders Safeway To Pay Shoppers $42 Million For Overcharging Online

PLEASANTON (KPIX 5) -- Safeway has been ordered to pay almost $42 million to customers nationwide.

A federal judge in San Francisco said the grocer charged customers 10 percent more to buy groceries online.

Customers were not aware of that.

It happened between 2006 and 2011.

Customers who were charged extra for shopping online are eligible for refunds.

The Pleasanton-based company says they alerted shoppers of the price increase and are fighting the decision.
