Jewelry Boxes Stolen From Elderly San Francisco Woman's Home By Burglar Posing As Utility Worker

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Two jewelry boxes were stolen from a 77-year-old woman after she let a man posing as a utility worker into her home in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, police said Thursday.

The resident, who lives in the 1400 block of Portola Drive near Vicente Street, told police that she heard her doorbell ring at about 2 p.m.  Tuesday.

She answered the door and standing before her was a man, estimated to be in his 30s, who told her he was a utility worker and had come to check the pipes in her home, police said.

She let the man inside her home and while he distracted her, another suspect apparently entered the home and stole two boxes worth of jewelry, police said.

Both suspects fled the home and have not been arrested, according to police.
