Jerry Rice Jr. To Try Out For San Francisco 49ers

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Call it a legacy beginning—Jerry Rice Jr. is trying out for the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners are hosting their annual rookie mini camp this weekend, and young Rice will be there.  Tuesday morning Rice Jr. tweeted:

Rice Jr. finished his college career at UNLV (where he transferred for his Masters after finishing his Bachelors at UCLA) undrafted. He went to the Baltimore Ravens mini camp but left unsigned, so he'll try his hand with the Niners this Saturday.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh had this to say about him (via the Baltimore Sun):

"Jerry Rice Jr. has done a nice job," Harbaugh said. "He's a really good athlete. He doesn't have his dad's size, but he sure got his athleticism. He runs in a real similar way. He's got that West Coast offense down. He's probably had that playbook since he was in the cradle.

"He knows all the rules of the crossing routes. He knows what to do, very good hands, real smooth athlete. He did a real nice job."

We'll see if the (better) Harbaugh brother also shares that sentiment.
