Gov. Brown, Lt. Gov. Newsom Among Lawmakers Warned Of Ethics Violations
SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) - Governor Jerry Brown and Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom are among 40 California lawmakers being investigated over potential ethics violations, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
The State of California says Brown and Newsom, along with Assembly Speaker John Pérez (D-Los Angeles), Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) and dozens of other politicians received improper donations from a Sacramento lobbyist.
At issue is the disclosure of the actual cost of lavish fundraisers held at the lobbyist's Sacramento mansion.
The Times identifies several other democratic state senators that will also receive warnings, which comes in the form of a letter from the Fair Political Practices Commission. The lobbyist has reportedly reached an agreement to pay more than $100,000 for violating campaign finance law.
An attorney representing several of the lawmakers said his clients have done nothing wrong.
