Jamba Juice Moving Headquarters From Emeryville To Texas

EMERYVILLE (CBS SF) – Known for their fruit smoothies, Jamba Juice announced Thursday that it plans to move the company's headquarters from the Bay Area to a suburb of Dallas, Texas.

As the lease on its current headquarters in Emeryville expires, the company said it will move operations to a new 25,000 square foot LEED certified facility in the city of Frisco, about 25 miles north of Dallas.

In a company statement, CEO David Pace said cost of living and operating costs played a role in the decision.

"Frisco is a community committed to healthy living that aligns closely with our overall mission," Pace said.

Jamba Juice said the transition will take place over the next six months. About 120 employees at Emeryville will be impacted, with some workers relocating to Texas. The company said the new headquarters will have 100 employees.

Following the announcement, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott cheered the move and touted the state's business climate as a prime reason for companies to relocate.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Abbott's predecessor, launched campaigns and made visits to California to lure businesses to the Lone Star State, citing lower costs.

The company said the move will not impact plans to open additional stores in California. Jamba Juice started in 1990 with a location in San Luis Obispo.
