Is That Metallica Singing The Pokémon Theme Song?

By Jon Wiederhorn

(RADIO.COM) – Considering how much of a fan Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is of anime it's not unreasonable to assume he's at familiar with Pokémon. But the idea of the band covering the show's theme song is a bit of a stretch. That's why YouTuber Golpe Baixo decided to edit together a video to make it look like Metallica are performing the Redeemers version of the song. And the video's gotten quite a reaction from viewers, amassing over 200,000 views since it was posted July 27.

Inspired by the Pokémon Go phenomenon, Baixo spent hours matching the vocal patterns, guitar strums and drum beats of the song to footage of Metallica onstage and did a pretty convincing job.

Meanhile, the band will release a book about its classic 1986 album Master of Puppets called Back to the Front on September 13. A special edition of the title will be made available to fans on August 30. Metallica are currently working on their 10th album, the follow-up to Death Magnetic, which came out in 2008.
