Irish-American Mafia Gang Leader Guilty In Delta-Area Murder Case

MARTINEZ (CBS SF) -- The co-founder of an Irish-American street gang known as FAIM was found guilty of murder, and conspiracy to commit murder Monday, the East Bay Times reported.

Coby Phillips helped found the Family Affiliated Irish Mafia, or FAIM, which operates in the Crockett area, faced the possibility of life in prison for the 2004 shooting death of an Aryan Brotherhood drug dealer named Darryl Crockett, and attempting to have a local defense attorney killed.

Prosecutors say Phillips wanted to send a message by having the defense attorney for Sergio Vega-Robles, a former Mexican cartel drug dealer, after he Vega-Robles agreed to testify against Phillips in a drug trafficking case.

Phillips founded FAIM with two others in the 1990's.
