Inmates, Staff Injured In 3rd California Prison Brawl In 3 Days
SUSANVILLE, Calif. (AP) — More than a dozen inmates and two staff members were injured in the third brawl inside a California prison this week.
Authorities say the latest uprising occurred Friday morning at the California Correctional Center in the Northern California town of Susanville.
The facility houses about 400 minimum-to-medium security inmates, many of whom supplement California's wildfire-fighting force.
Prison officials say the trouble started when about 40 inmates broke out of five dorms and began fighting others.
Other inmates set fires in their cells.
Four inmates were hospitalized, including two in critical condition. Eleven were treated at the prison's medical facility. Two staff members were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Similar brawls broke out Wednesday and Thursday at the California Men's Colony State Prison in San Luis Obispo. Four inmates were injured there.
