Inmate Uses Ventilation Duct To Escape From Monterey County Jail

MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- Authorities have issued a statewide Be on the Lookout report Thursday following the escape of an inmate from Monterey County Jail.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Freddy Swanson escaped from a medium security dormitory in the Rehabilitation Facility section of the jail around 11:40 a.m.

Authorities believe that earlier this morning, Swanson climbed a ventilation duct, punched through a 4-by-2 foot window, then jumped off a rooftop and escaped.

Some blood was found next to the broken window glass, sheriff's officials said.

Swanson was arrested on Dec. 19, 2014 for narcotics and firearm-related violations, but has yet to be sentenced.

He is described as a Caucasian man, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 160 pounds with brown eyes and hair.

Anyone with information about his location is asked to call 9-1-1.
