Newborns Found Abandoned Near Dumpster In Fairfield; 1 Dead

FARIFIELD (CBS SF) - Police in Fairfield are investigating after two recently birthed infants were found abandoned near a dumpster Tuesday. One of the infants died.

The two infants were found on the 300 block of Pittman Road. Police were dispatched to the area around 4:11 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman behind a business near the dumpsters.

The caller, a local business employee, told dispatchers the two infants were with the woman and appeared to have been recently birthed on the sidewalk. Officers didn't locate the woman upon arrival.

The first officer to arrive immediately began performing life saving measures on one of the infants and then turned over care to fire personnel. The infant was then transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition Tuesday evening.

The other infant was determined to have died prior to police arrival. Police received information about a woman in the area who could possibly be associated. Upon a search of the surrounding area, officers found the woman nearby on Central Place.

The mother was detained and taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

The Fairfield PD Investigations Bureau is in charge of the investigation.
