Iconic San Francisco Art Store Relocating To Oakland

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) -- The Flax art store, long a fixture on San Francisco's Market Street, will soon re-open in Oakland, store officials said.

The store owners were told in May that needed to move out of their San Francisco location to make way for a nine-story, 160-unit condominium development.

Third-generation store owner Howard Flax said he looked for a new location in San Francisco but could not find an affordable place.

The new Oakland store will open in February and be located on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. It will be housed in a 14,000-square foot building.
