Human Skull On A Paper Plate Found On Grizzly Peak In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A human skull was found Wednesday afternoon near Tilden Regional Park, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to the area of Grizzly Peak Boulevard, about a half mile west of South Park Drive, after receiving tips regarding a human skull, Officer Johnna Watson said.

When officers arrived, they found a human skull "out in the open," Watson said. The skull was on a paper plate surrounded by beads.

Grizzly Peak attracts a lot of hikers, bikers and tourists. Visitors in the area were baffled by the bizarre discovery.

Meantime, police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Further information was not immediately available and Watson said police will not be providing any updates until Thursday morning.
