Huge 4-Alarm Fire Destroys Building In San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A huge 4-alarm fire engulfed a building in San Leandro early Monday morning forcing the evacuation of a nearby apartment building.

Firefighters were called just after 2:30 a.m. to a blaze at Doolittle and Marina Blvd.

When they arrived, there was an explosion that blew out the front windows and the fire quickly grew to 4-alarms.

Some 50 firefighters were battling the blaze.

The Marina Supermarket and Thrifty Medical Supply were destroyed by the fire.

"We're just praying to God that everyone is okay," said Yazan Amer, co-owner of Thrifty Medical Supply.

By about 4:20 a.m. the fire was under control and contained, but fire officials said they expected to remain on the scene to for several hours, mopping up hot spots.

There were no reports of injuries.
