1-Alarm House Fire Extinguished In Oakland Fruitvale Neighborhood

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Firefighters brought a one-alarm house fire in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood under control Saturday morning, according to a battalion chief.

The blaze was reported at a two-story residence in the 900 block of 40th Avenue near San Leandro Street at 8:38 a.m., Oakland fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker said.

When firefighters arrived at the single-family residence, the occupants of the home were already outside and standing in front of the building, Baker said.

She said the fire started on the first floor of the home and because it was an old house the fire made its way into the walls and the attic.

Baker said the blaze was under control by about 9:10 a.m.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the battalion chief.
