Homeless Woman Arrested In Connection To Violent Berkeley Assault
BERKELEY (CBS SF) — An appeal to the public paid off for Berkeley police who arrested a homeless woman on Saturday for a violent unprovoked attack on an elderly woman in downtown last month.
Surveillance video caught the attack as 58-year-old Carol Freeman, of San Francisco, was pushing a shopping cart on Shattuck near Allston Way on Sept. 23 at 9:30 p.m.
The 85-year-old victim was walking with a family member when Freeman passed by, turned around and suddenly shoved the victim to the sidewalk causing injuries to her face.

A community member who saw the widely-distributed video tipped off police who then located Freeman early Saturday morning in Civic Center Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Way between Allston Way and Center Street.
She was arrested on suspicion of felony battery, battery on the elderly and causing great bodily injury during the commission of a felony.
