Homeless Sex-Offender Arrested In Petaluma For Failing To Register

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A homeless sex-offender was arrested in Petaluma Friday for allegedly failing to register with local law enforcement, according to police.

David Benedict, a 33-year-old transient from the Santa Rosa area, was found near the Lucky's shopping center in the vicinity of Payran Street and Caulfield Lane, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

Benedict allegedly admitted to officers that he'd moved to Petaluma more than two months ago, but failed to register as a sex-offender as required by law. He had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Benedict was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on $5,000 bail, police said.
