Homeless Man Found Stabbed Near Embarcadero Muni Platform

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A homeless man was found injured on a San Francisco Municipal Railway platform after being stabbed nearby, a police spokeswoman said.

The stabbing was reported at 5:53 a.m. near The Embarcadero and Folsom Street, where a group of homeless people were camping on the sidewalk, San Francisco police Sgt. Danielle Newman said.

The victim woke up to someone beating him up and then stabbing him in the torso, Newman said.

The victim escaped and went to a Muni platform, where he was found and taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to Newman.

The suspect, also believed to be a homeless person, remains at large and police are interviewing witnesses to try to identify the suspect, Newman said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
