Driver Sought In Hit-&-Run Crash That Killed Hayward Cyclist

HAYWARD (CBS SF) – Investigators are looking for a driver who fled a crash that killed a bicyclist near an Interstate Highway 880 on-ramp in Hayward sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.

CHP officers were dispatched around 7 a.m. to a report of a person lying on the right side of the on-ramp to Interstate Highway 880 from Tennyson Road.

There they found a man in his mid-20s lying near a bicycle.

Paramedics were the first on the scene and pronounced the man dead.

CHP Officer Joseph Fowler said the man had been lying there for a while because he was cold to the touch.

He said bicyclist may have been crossing the road in a nearby crosswalk when a vehicle struck him.

But right now officers have little to go on because they have no witnesses and the suspect left the area.

Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to contact the CHP Hayward office at (510) 489-1500.
