Pedestrian Killed In Tractor-Trailer Hit-And-Run In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A pedestrian was killed after being struck in a hit-and-run collision by a tractor-trailer in the Tenderloin in San Francisco early Thursday morning, according to police.

Authorities say the collision was reported at 5:42 a.m. at the intersection of Market and Fifth streets. The victim was hospitalized with injuries considered life-threatening, but later died.

The coroner told KPIX 5 the victim has been identified as 54-year-old Michael Evans of San Francisco.

A description of the tractor-trailer wasn't immediately provided.

Police closed off Broadway between Front and Battery Streets, near the KPIX 5 studios, to inspect a tractor-trailer connected to the collision. A driver has been detained.

Further information about the driver was not immediately available and the hit-and-run collision remains under investigation.

Police closed the intersection of Fifth and Market streets for nearly four hours, but the streets have since reopened.
