Hikers Brought To Safety As Growing Antioch Area Wildfire Burns

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Two hikers were brought to safety as a growing wildfire in Contra Costa County burned out of control Wednesday.

Firefighters reached 30 percent containment on the 200-acre wildfire in the Contra Loma Regional Park area of Antioch Wednesday evening, according to a Contra Costa County fire inspector.

"We found two hikers," Inspector Steve Aubert said. "They've been brought out to safety with no injuries reported."

"At this time no structures have been impacted, but of course we had a bunch that were threatened," Aubert said. "Those have been protected at this point."

Evacuations have been ordered for residents of Grimsby Drive.

An evacuation center had been established at Mira Vista Hills Park in the same neighborhood where the Red Cross is offering assistance, according to Aubert.

The fire was reported at 4:04 p.m., according to a county fire dispatcher, and has not been contained. Firefighters with the county, Cal Fire and East Bay Regional Parks are all working to put it out, Aubert said.

No injuries have been reported.
