Highway 1 In Aptos Reopened After Fatal Solo Crash

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A portion of state Highway 1 in Aptos that was shut down after a fatal crash Sunday morning has reopened.

The crash was reported around 11:25 a.m. on northbound Highway 1 near the Rio Del Mar Boulevard exit, according to the CHP.

The driver involved was reportedly speeding along the roadway's right hand side and passing traffic prior to the crash, according to the CHP.

At least one person inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether the driver was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

The collision prompted the closure of one lane near the scene of the crash and the CHP issued a Sig-alert around 11:30 a.m. The lane reopened around 1:40 p.m.
