A suspect fled from deputies along Highway 1 just south of Devil's Slide along the San Francsico Bay Peninsula and was still at large, authorities said Thursday.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said a suspect with an active warrant was seen driving on Highway 1, and deputies attempted to pull him over. The driver fled and left the vehicle abandoned on the east side of Highway 1 near Gray Whale Cove State Beach, south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels.

The suspect, who was not identified, is believed to have fled the area on foot. Deputies conducted a large search of the area, using K-9s and drones, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies continued to maintain a presence in the area as of about noon, the office said. People who see any suspicious activity were asked to report it to law enforcement.
