Teen Killed, 1 Critically Hurt in Shooting Near Fairfield School

FAIRFIELD (CBS/BCN/AP) -- Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was killed and an 18-year-old critically wounded when a gun battle broke out near Armijo High School in Fairfield on Friday.

Two juvenile suspects were arrested in the shooting.

Just after 5 p.m. several people called to report a possible shooting in the area of Bell Avenue and Washington Street, about a block from Armijo High School.

Police said two groups exchanged gunfire in the area.

A lockdown of nearby Armijo High School was ordered after two of the suspects took off running. A junior varsity football game taking place at the time was evacuated and students were moved into the gym.

One of the suspects was found inside that gym attempting to blend in, while another was arrested at a nearby house.

Authorities said no one on campus was hurt and they arranged a nearby meeting place for parents to pick up their children while an investigation continued.
