Bullied Hercules Transgender Teen Jewlyes Gutierrez Among Grand Marshals At SF Pride Parade

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A transgender teenager from Hercules who defended herself against schoolyard bullies will be honored as one of the grand marshals at the Pride Parade in San Francisco Sunday.

Jewlyes Gutierrez made national headlines after she was seen on video fighting with girls who she said had bullied her. Gutierrez was the only one later charged with misdemeanor battery but the charges were later dropped.

Gutierrez was selected by San Francisco Pride as a community grand marshal, one of several community and celebrity grand marshals for the parade.

The honorary grand marshal is Chelsea Manning, who will be represented by a trans-rights activist at the event.

Manning, a former Army private known as Bradley Manning, was convicted last year of espionage for leaking classified documents to Wikileaks and is serving 35 years confinement with the possibility of parole by 2021.
