White Christmas: Heavy Snow Expected Wednesday In Tahoe Area

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS/AP) — Tahoe area road crews have already started applying de-icing solution to local roads and highways in anticipation of a winter storm that should bring a white Christmas to the Sierra.

The National Weather Service says a strong cold front will move through western Nevada Wednesday night into Thursday on the heels of record-high temperatures that sent the mercury soaring Monday to 60 degrees in Reno and 51 degrees at South Lake Tahoe.

The heaviest snow is forecast after 4 p.m. Wednesday, with 5 to 10 inches on mountain passes and up to 3 inches on the valley floors by Thursday morning.

Winds gusts in excess of 50 mph are expected, with a high Thursday of 35 degrees in Reno.
