Heat To Blame For BART Delays; Berkeley Station Loses Power

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Monday's hot weather led to delays throughout the BART system and a the closure of a station in Berkeley for several hours.

BART officials are reporting system wide delays, and a station closure this evening due to equipment problems caused by heat.

Trains did not stop at the Downtown Berkeley station due to a power outage Monday evening. The station reopened shortly after 10:00 p.m.

There was a five to 10 minute delay throughout the system earlier in the day due to problems on the track related to Monday's hot weather. BART Spokesperson Taylor Huckabee said "hot stress on electronic controllers is to blame."

There's also a major delay on the Daly City line headed toward SFO due to an equipment problem on a train, according to BART officials. Huckabee said the only solution was to slow down service to allow the controllers to cool down.
