Head Installed Atop Massive Statue Of Venus In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Crews made major progress Monday with a massive San Francisco art installation as workers painstakingly attached the head to a 92-foot-high statue.

The massive statue of Venus resides at a new mid-market apartment complex called Trinity Place. Strong winds delayed this phase of the project last week.

Mia Sangiacomo, the daughter of the developer who commissioned the artwork, fought back tears as she watched it all unfold.

"It's actually very emotional, because my dad built this Venus and it was his dream to build this courtyard for SF, a gift to SF," said Sangiacomo. "It's the size of a football field. Art is going to be everywhere and the main attraction is this Venus. So yeah, I'm really proud of my dad, really proud. I miss him."

The polished stainless-steel sculpture is just a few feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty.

It is now the tallest statue in the city.
