Hayward Rape Suspect Arrested After Using Victim's Credit Card For Car Wash, Sexual Enhancement Pills
HAYWARD (CBS SF) — Alameda County Sheriff's officials say the suspect who violently raped a 19-year-old woman was arrested after using her credit card to get a car wash and buy sexual enhancement pills.
Miguel Torres, 38, was taken into custody on Wednesday night at his home in Hayward. Sheriff's investigators said Torres followed the college student home from a friend's house around midnight Saturday, then attacked and raped her at her apartment building in an unincorporated area of Hayward, according to The Oakland Tribune.
Along with surveillance camera footage of Torres' white SUV following the victim, the transaction from the credit card Torres allegedly stole, along with the victim's purse, helped detectives track down Torres.
Torres was released on parole in 2010 after having served 11 years in San Quentin State Prison on an attempted murder charge out of Santa Clara County. He was also charged with attempted murder of a fellow inmate while he was incarcerated, The Oakland Tribune reported.
The district attorney didn't immediately return a message about Torres' formal charges.
