Suspect Steps Out Of Car, Fires Shots At Hayward Officer During Traffic Stop

HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A person who allegedly shot at an officer early Sunday morning in Hayward was driving a car that might be connected with another shooting on Saturday night, police said.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, an officer pulled over a car in the area near Winton Avenue and Soto Road, Hayward police Sgt. Tasha DeCosta said.

The suspect stepped out of the car and shot at the officer, DeCosta said.

The officer returned fire and was not injured in the incident, according to police.

The suspect was driving a car that might be connected with a shooting that happened around 10 p.m. Saturday, DeCosta said.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect and residents are being asked to shelter in place.
