Have You Ever Flown The Most Frequently Delayed Bay Area Flight?

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - So you think air travel delays are out of control here in the Bay Area? Maybe yous shouldn't mention that to your friends in Chicago.

The windy city is the origin or end point for 9 out of the 10 worst routes for commercial delays, according to Wall Street Journal analysis of Bureau of Transportation Statistics data. Flying form Chicago to Knoxville is most frequently delayed route in the country, with 44.1 percent of those routes experiencing delays or cancellations.

By comparison, things are less horrible here in the Bay Area. WSJ found that travelers from Chicago's Midway airport to Oakland were the most likely to experience headaches of all Bay Area travelers. At 42.2%, that route was the 11th most delayed in the country. Most of those delays are likely linked to weather and other factors that make Chicago delays the norm.

San Francisco International's most delayed flights are regional, with Sacramento to San Francisco (39.1% disrupted), San Louis Obispo (37.9%) and Arcata/Eureka (37.9%) ranking worst.  At 36.6%, the delay rate on trips to Fresno from SFO is the highest frequency of disruption for any flight out of the Bay Area.

The most delayed flight into San Jose is from Dallas/Fort Worth at 30.1%. The most delayed flight originating at SJC goes to Ontario, California at 26.7 percent. That's the same destination as the most delayed flight out of Oakland (31.5%).

Compare that to Chicago, which has 23 flights delayed at least 40 percent of the time.

A tool in WSJ's report allows you to search for the delay history all major U.S. routes.
