Harbaugh: No Tolerance Of Domestic Violence, But No Rush To Judgment On McDonald Arrest

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he hopes there is no rush to judgment on the arrest of defensive lineman Ray McDonald on domestic violence charges but said any player guilty of such an action would not be welcome on the team.

"There's going to be two principles at play here," Harbaugh told KNBR 680 during his radio show Tuesday morning. "One is, I'll speak for myself and I'll speak for the 49ers, we'll not tolerate domestic violence.

"The second principle is going to be: we're firm believers in due process, and I ask for your understanding in those two principles."

McDonald is out on $25,000 bail after his Sunday morning arrest, and is scheduled for a September 15 court date.

"I can't say too much, not right now, but the truth will come out," the 6'3″ and 290-pound McDonald said after his release, according to the Associated Press.

Harbaugh said he would not rule out McDonald practicing with the team or playing while the legal process worked its course.

"This is a legal matter. I'm not here to tell you what happened because I don't know,' Harbaugh told KNBR. "We all owe, to everyone involved, the ability for due process to take place. This is a process that has to be conducted, has to be concluded, and then we'll be in a better place to have this discussion and/or make judgments."

McDonald has had a previous arrest for driving under the influence. The 49ers have had ten players arrested since 2012, the most in the National Football League.
