Winds Topple Tree Onto Martinez Farmers Market Trick-Or-Treaters; Nine Injured
MARTINEZ (CBS SF) -- Nine people were injured when forceful winds knocked over a tree Sunday morning at the annual kids Halloween event at the Martinez farmers market.
Six of the injured were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
People were at the market and street fair when the 30-foot-tall tree toppled at the plaza on Main Street at 10:15 a.m.
The youngest injured was a child just under 2 years old, who suffered minor injuries, while the oldest was 73.
"It was extremely windy down there," said Martinez police Sgt. Steve Gaul.
The market, street fair and a "Trunk or Treat" Halloween event that had been scheduled to start at 10 a.m. were all canceled.
