The San Jose Police Department would only confirm an employee reported equipment stolen, but could not provide details because it was an internal personnel issue.

Sources told KPIX 5 the employee involved is a 28-year-old cadet.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called a parking lot behind the Benihana restaurant at the Vallco Shopping Mall in Cupertino on the evening of October 26th to investigate a vehicle break-in.

Deputies found the glove compartment of the cadet's private vehicle had been broken into and the trunk popped open, according to the sheriff's office.

In the trunk was the service revolver, three high-capacity clips, handcuffs, a duty belt, and a training Taser, the sheriff's office said All had been stolen.

It was not clear whether the cadet would be part of Friday's graduating class of San Jose Police cadets, nor what punishment he might face.
