Group Of Marin County Student Volunteers Survives Deadly Ecuador Earthquake

LARKSPUR (KCBS) -- A group of students and teachers at Redwood High School in Marin County are safe after returning from earthquake ravaged Ecuador.

The group was on an environmental project to help plant trees for a non-profit group called Global Student Embassy.

The students and chaperones were in Puerto Lopez when the magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Saturday.

The quake killed more than 400 people as of Tuesday, and left thousands injured.

Nobody on the trip was injured, and Redwood High's principal said the group is safe, and could be back in class as soon as Wednesday.
