Gravel Truck Overturns, Spilling Load Onto Other Vehicles In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A truck carrying gravel overturned Tuesday afternoon in San Francisco's Richmond District, causing the gravel to spill onto other vehicles, fire officials said.

At 1:33 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a gravel truck that overturned and lost its load near 45th Avenue and Balboa Street, according to a fire dispatcher.

"Looks like he was trying to back a load into the property next door. And the hill got the best of him. Doesn't take much. The center of gravity is so high when you load up something like that," Alex in San Francisco said.

Gravel was poured onto at least three nearby vehicles, including the Ford Mustang that Nick Santos has owned since new.

"That was my baby.  I bought it brand new 16 years ago.  I can't believe it's full of rocks," Santos said.
