Grass Getting Greener For San Jose Youth Soccer Players With 7 New Fields
There's a huge demand for soccer fields in Silicon Valley, but with land commanding huge sums of money, it's been difficult to find space for teams. Now, an agreement between the city of San Jose, the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team, and other stakeholders has secured a swath of land at Guadalupe Gardens, near the airport where the fields will be installed.
Aaron Resendez has been a youth soccer coach for years.
"Sometimes in the season during practice, we have to divide the field for practice by six, seven teams at one time. That is the only way you can practice, because there is not enough fields," he said.
"This is going to bring thousands of people in to enjoy the beautiful park we have. We expect a lot of weekend use, a lot of clubs. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity for a lot of kids," San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said.
The city is buying the Guadalupe Gardens site from the FAA to allow construction of the fields.
