Fire at San Francisco's McLaren Park sparked by illegal firework
SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco firefighters quickly knocked down a 3-acre grass fire in McLaren Park on Sunday night.
On Monday, fire officials said the fire was sparked by a firework. San Francisco Fire released video of how the fire began and noted just how quickly it spread.
The video was captured by a resident's doorbell camera.
All fireworks in San Francisco, including the so-called safe and sane fireworks, are illegal in San Francisco for a reason: they caused countless injuries, hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage, and, in some cases, deaths. Fire crews mentioned that homes in the area had recently created defensible space by cutting the grass back.
In San Francisco, all fireworks are illegal, even ones labeled Safe and Sane.
