Grass Fire Burns 45 Acres Near Hercules

HERCULES (CBS SF) -- A grass and brush fire Sunday evening in unincorporated Contra Costa County near Hercules has burned about 45 acres and is 50 percent contained, a Cal Fire Battalion Chief said.

The fire started at about 4:30 p.m. at state Highway 4 and Franklin Canyon Road, west of the Franklin Canyon Golf Course.

The fire is on both sides of the highway and downed power lines had closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 4. The lanes were reported to be open again as of 6:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Leitzke asked that motorists be aware that firefighters are moving apparatus on and off the highway as they work to extinguish the fire.

No one has been injured and no structures have been damaged, Leitzke said.
