Google's New 'Project Sunroof' Will Tell You How Much Solar Power You Could Be Generating

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) - Google researchers say a lot of people have been asking the company's algorithm how many solar panels would fit on the roof, how much energy they could produce and which contractor should be hired to get them installed.

In an attempt to answer all of those questions in on search, Google is rolling out Project Sunroof. The tool uses existing data from Google Maps and other sources to do an analysis of your home's solar generating potential. This video explains how it works:

Google will even provide an estimate on how much you could save over a 20-year lease and give you some options for installation. The feature is currently only available in a handful of markets, including the Bay Area and Fresno. Check out this link to see how much potential Project Sunroof thinks you have.
