Giants Rally In 9th Inning, Snap Losing Streak

NEW YORK (AP/CBS SF) — Christian Arroyo broke a ninth-inning tie with a three-run double and the San Francisco Giants took advantage of a critical error by third baseman Wilmer Flores, rallying past the New York Mets 6-5 on Wednesday to stop a five-game losing streak.

Hunter Pence hit a tying single off closer Jeurys Familia in a four-run ninth that gave the Giants (12-23) only their third victory in 11 games. Buster Posey homered again for San Francisco, which heads home from a 3-6 trip with the worst record in the majors.

Flores nearly tied the score with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, hitting a two-run double off the top of the left-center fence for his third hit. Derek Law, subbing for injured closer Mark Melancon, retired Kevin Plawecki on a dribbler in front of home plate for his second save.

5 Takeaways:

Posey Ends Power Outage
Buster Posey's solo shot in the 2nd inning was his third home run in as many days. It's the first time Posey has homered in three straight games since 2013.
Posey had more home runs in the series (3) than he did in his previous 89 at-bats (2) He raised his slugging percentage by over 100-points in the three games.

Arroyo Is Clutch
How's this for small-sample size fun? Christian Arroyo has 9 RBI since being called up from the minors. He's driven in six of those runs after the 7th inning.
The 21-year old has shown no sign of being afraid of the moment. He hammered a 95-MPH fastball from Mets closer Jeurys Familia into the gap for the three-run double that gave the Giants the lead.

Law Hangs On
Derek Law didn't exactly make the most of his first save opportunity since Mark Melancon was placed on the disabled list. He gave up three hits in the bottom of the 9th and Wilmer Flores came within two feet from tying the game with a three-run homer. Of course with the way the Giants have been playing lately, who knows how many more save chances Law will get while Melancon is sidelined.

Moving On Up
There is one upside to having the worst record in baseball - there's only one way to go from here - The Giants picked up their 12th win to move ahead of the Braves, who now stand alone with 11 wins, the fewest in baseball.

Rematch With The Reds
The Giants return home for a four-game series with the Reds. San Francisco will be looking for a little revenge after being swept in Cincinnati last weekend. The Reds outscored the Giants 31-5 in the series.
