Puppy Stolen At Gunpoint From Teen On Walk In San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- San Leandro Police are asking for help in finding a 3-month old German Shepherd puppy that was stolen from its teenaged owner during an armed robbery.

Police say two men armed with a pistol stole 3-month old 'Maya' from her owner as he walked her in the 1500 block of Dayton Avenue Monday night around 8:30 p.m.

The two suspects, who police described as Hispanic males in their early 20's, parked their car near the victim before a passenger exited the car to snatch 'Maya' from the boy.

The boy held onto Maya at first, but let go of the dog fearing for his life when the driver exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at him.

"You can only imagine how frightening a violent crime like this can be, especially for a 14-year old," Lieutenant Robert McManus said.

Police only described the suspect's vehicle as being light colored.
